WE WANT TO AVOID PROMOTING THE STEREOTYPE PORTRAYING WOMEN AS BEING ‘FIRST’ GOOD AT HOUSEHOLD TASKS.
Let’s take cooking for example. I am sure many of you like or even love to cook! Keep in mind that many men like to cook as well and are often really good at it!
Somehow I have a feeling that men rarely think about baking a cake or brownies to bring to the office for their colleagues.
Yes situations like these may happen to you…
— You just cooked a batch of cookies over the weekend with the Holidays coming up and made too much. “Why don’t I bring the extras to the office?”
— You find yourself in a context where you want to please the team. “Why don’t I make that quick and easy recipe everybody loves?” (I admit to having brought date squares in the past to please my colleagues…).
— Another time the team is coordinating the celebration of a special occasion or a colleague’s birthday, and is looking for a good cook.
Well, the truth is, whatever the reason, if you can avoid getting the job for the home cooking, it’s better to. Or at least try not to volunteer too quickly for it…Let other people (men) offer to do it …Or, maybe you can buy it?
LET’S AVOID FEEDING THE STEREOTYPE IN OUR WORK ENVIRONMENT THAT “IT’S JUST SO NATURAL FOR WOMEN TO COOK…”
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!
