My Top 8 Non-Toxic Nail Polish Brands

I decided to try non-toxic nail polish for different reasons. The first one being my health — because I do wear nail polish on both my feet and hands almost all the time. The second reason was to see if after a while my nails would get healthier — less prone to splitting and breaking.

Traditional nail polishes often still contain ingredients that are drying and damaging to our nails. This study done by Duke University and Environmental Working Group even suggests some of the ingredients could be harmful to our health. At least this would be more true for women who wear nail polish all the time. So I thought I’d see what non-toxic products were out there.

Well I was quite surprised to find that a multitude of non-toxic nail polish brands exist in that niche market. Most of them however can only be found on the Web.

So my selection criteria for rounding up my top 8 brands were as follows:

  • beautiful colors
  • wide variety of colors
  • at least 5-free (damaging ingredients they do not contain)
  • deliverable in Canada and the US
  • decent price range

I have tried and appreciate each brand on this list. And must say that in terms of durability — contrary to what I was expecting — they last as long as the more traditional brands.

You’ll find them listed based on the number of ingredients they are free of. And since I wanted you to be able to compare apples with apples, some brands end up in a different category here than what they actually represent on their own website.

After using these products for about 2 months now, I see positive signs that my nails are getting healthier. But it’s still too soon to officially conclude. So I will wait a little longer before sharing my final thoughts with you on that aspect.

  1. Polish Perfect

I agree with at least 5-free toxicity level. Good job to these brands who are trying their best in making changes to their formula and looking after their customers healthier choices on nail polish.
