This Wonderful Book Put an End to My Insomnia

The Power of Now, written by Eckhart Tolle, teaches us how to REALLY/TRULY live in the moment.

I emphasize on the words really/truly because when you read this book you realize how ‘living in the moment’ can be hard to achieve! I used to often say to myself – “I have to enjoy this moment, time passes by and I don’t see it!”. Now that I’ve read this book – I still find that time flies… – but I understand better how to ‘be in the moment’.

What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the Now. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time – past and future – the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is.

Without wanting to get too spiritual on you, let me give you an idea of some of my takeways from reading this book.

  • WHAT IS – IS
    There’s no reason to stress or get all emotional about situations that bother you – for it will not change the reality or facts. Might as well accept what IS and use your energy to find peace – or, take action to change what is disturbing you. Succeeding to reach this proper state of mind will take away the suffering and bring a sense of peace.
  • THINKING ABOUT PAST EVENTS OR THE FUTURE IS USELESS
    Because in fact you cannot change the past so what’s the use of focusing on it? And you can’t act on the future until you’re in that moment. So by focusing on past events and things to come you are indeed missing the Now…Logical no?

LAST BUT NOT LEAST – After a couple of months into reading this book and working hard to integrate some of the techniques, MY INSOMIA SIMPLY ENDED. I have been sleeping well again since February (I was struggling with insomnia for about a year and a half). What an AMAZING FEELING! Actually, this unexpected side effect may not be that surprising since we could say that this book is in essence a soft introduction to meditation.
